Located in Sherwood, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Christison Rare Books stocks a wide variety of interesting books. We are specialists in the natural heritage, anthropology, military campaigns and lore of our region. Whereas we are particularly excited by rarities, more commonplace books are a necessary adjunct to our business.
Whatever your interests or budget, we believe you will find our pricing reasonable and our service friendly.
Our many years of experience in safely shipping rare books around the world provide the assurance that your purchase will reach you unharmed.
Collections and single items of note are bought. We pay well for interesting material, and are willing to travel in pursuit of worthwhile items.
Christison Rare Books was founded by bibliophile and Africana collector Grant Christison almost two decades ago. Grant, the author of "Book Collecting in South Africa" (Oribi Books, 1996), has since entered academia, focussing on colonial literature.
For some years, Lindsay Christison has continued the business. He has wide-ranging interests, a special appreciation for wildlife and travel books, and is a registered regional nature guide.
Wendy Christison is a tireless reader and organiser. She takes a particular interest in African languages and modern first editions. In 2004 she opted to join Christison Rare Books. Doing so has afforded her the time needed to assist our promising trainee, Ian Christison, who seems set to become an expert on gardening and modern art. Another trainee, Gus, is our sleeping partner and hunting authority.
We work from private premises, and our business is largely postal in nature. We service a large international email mailing list and issue periodic printed catalogues. Our stock can be browsed on the internet through this website (via Biblio), and also through abebooks.
